**Abstract**: This article aims to explore the issue of space utilization rate in captive lake sheep by constructing a mathematical model to optimize the design and layout of sheep houses, aiming to achieve the goal of improving the space utilization rate and the health level of sheep. Firstly, the main problems facing captive lake sheep were analyzed, including low space utilization rate and poor health status of sheep. Subsequently, through abstraction and simplification of the sheep house structure, a mathematical model containing multiple variables was established, including sheep house size, number of sheep, ventilation conditions, etc.

During the model construction process, the nonlinear programming method was adopted, taking the maximization of space utilization rate as the objective function, while considering the needs of sheep's activity space, rest space, and breeder's operational space as constraints. By comparing and analyzing data from different scales and types of sheep houses, the genetic algorithm was used to solve the model, and a series of optimal solutions were obtained.

The experimental results show that the optimized sheep house design can effectively improve the space utilization rate and also improve the health status of sheep. Specifically, the optimized design scheme can increase the space utilization rate by an average of about 15%, and reduce the disease incidence caused by crowding among sheep. In addition, the model also has certain flexibility, able to be adjusted and optimized according to different farming scales and conditions.
